Bromelain and Neuropathy

Bromelain is an enzyme found in pineapple.  Many patients develop neuropathy (tingling in hands and feet) during or after their chemotherapy treatment.  There are a number of suggestions made in regards to neuropathy, such as glutamine powder 10 grams three times a day, B-complex, and now Bromelain.  This may not fix chemo-induced neuropathy, but it has been noted to show relief in some patients.

Bromelain is currently being used to reduce swelling, pain, and bruising after injury, and also for arthritis, bunions, bursitis, tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, gout, and sinusitis.  The recommend dose, if taken by capsule, is 200-400 mg three times a day.  It is more readily absorbed on an empty stomach.  Overall it would be better to just add fresh pineapple to the diet, but if this is not possible the pill form will have to do.
